SUMMARY:RESEARCH SEMINAR on Academic Employment Patterns in Higher Education: National and Organizational Determinants   
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Pedro Pineda\, University of Bath \n  \nDiscussant: Jürgen Enders\, University of Bath \n  \n  \nAbstract: \nAiming to fill in current research gaps on our knowledge about the employment of academics in higher education\, we will present the first results of our ongoing research identifying national convergences and path-dependencies in academic employment. We will begin presenting our dataset\, created through the standardization of academic ranks of the higher education databases of 13 European countries and the US which we then merged with ETER. \nThen\, we will present the changing composition of academic staff over time. We distinguish countries having an increasing proportion of junior staff from those with a more stable participation of senior positions. We also recognize that universities offer fewer senior positions than universities of applied sciences and theorize about the encountered trends.
