SUMMARY:Methods in Action: "Spatial regression models for estimating determinants of regional knowledge creation"
DESCRIPTION:The “Methods in Action Series” course “Spatial regression models for estimating determinants of regional knowledge creation” is organized by AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and will take place on online platform on  5 September and 12 September 2022. \n  \n \nDownload ->  LEAFLET OF THE COURSE\nDownload ->  APPLICATION FORM\n  \nTopic and objective \n\n• Dealing with common issues in spatial regression models on research and innovation data at the regional level\n• Including Spatial Durbin Models\, spatial weight matrices and coefficients interpretation (direct\, indirect spillover and total effects)\n• Application to an interesting recent research debate\, investigating drivers of different modes of regional knowledge creation\n• Specific emphasis shifted to the impact of R&D networks on regional knowledge exploration versus knowledge exploitation\n\n\nOnline course including: \n• Online lecture on spatial regression models as adequate instruments to estimate drivers of innovation at regional level.\n• Group exercises where participants will apply spatial regressions models using example datasets\n• Plenary discussion on pros and cons of regression strategies and how to motivate them to the reviewers.\n  \n  \n  \nCourse programme \nMonday 5th of September 2022 \n9:00-09:15 Introduction to the Course \n09:15-10:00 Lecture: Basics of spatial econometrics \n10:30-11:30 R tutorial on how to estimate spatial regression models \n11:30-12:15 Creation of the groups and task assignment \n  \nInterim discussion with groups online upon request on September 7 (instructors stay online) \n  \nMonday 12th of September 2022 \n9:00-10:00 Group presentations \n10:00-10:30  Final discussion and assessment of the use of methods \n  \nInstructors \nMartina Neuländtner and Thomas Scherngell\, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology \nReference paper for the course \nNeuländtner\, M.\, & Scherngell\, T. (2022). R&D networks and their effects on knowledge exploration versus knowledge exploitation: Evidence from a spatial econometric perspective. Industry and Innovation\, 1-32 \n  \n  \nTarget audience: \nThe course aims at involving participants among the following categories: \n•Senior scientists\, early career researchers focusing on empirical research\n•PhD or master students at the last phase of their training\n•Research intermediaries (e.g. research association like Science Europe).\n  \n  \nCourse prerequisites: \nBasic requisite for admission will be: \n•Knowledge of basic principles of statistics\, as well as of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression\n•Solid working knowledge of R-Cran programming\nCost and Fees: \nCost and Fees: No registration fees to be paid by European Participants. \nMaximum number of participants: 16. \nRegistration: \nby email to the organizer including a CV and a short statement of interest. \nDeadline for request of participation: \n29th August 2022. \nContact person: \nMartina Neuländtner\, martina.neulaendtner@ait.ac.at \n
