DESCRIPTION:The “Methods in Action Series” course “Classifying Higher Education Institutions using Latent Class Analysis” is organized by USI\, Università della Svizzera Italiana and will take place on online platform on  8\, 14  and 20 March 2023. \n  \n \nDownload ->  LEAFLET OF THE COURSE\nDownload ->  APPLICATION FORM\n  \nTopic and objective \n\n\n•Introduce the conceptual and methodological issues of HEI classification and diversity analysis.\n•Introduce Latent Class Analysis as a statistical tool for HEI’s classification.\n•Test the method and discuss advantages and disadvantages  using an example dataset from a published paper\n\n\n\nOnline course including: \n\n  \n•On-line lecture presenting Latent Class Analysis (LCA) as a method to group observations and its statistical foundations.\n•Group exercises where participants will apply LCA to the example dataset.\n•Plenary discussion on the results\, their interpretation and issues with the resulting classification.\n  \n  \nCourse programme \n\nWednesday 8th of March 2023 \n9:00-09:15 Introduction to the Course \n09:15-10:15 Lecture: presentation of LCA and its usage for classificatory purposes. \n10:30-12:00 Stata tutorial on how to implement LCA. \n13:00 – 14.00 Using LCA to analyze HEI’s heterogeneity \n14.00 – 15.00 Creation of the groups and task assignment. \n  \nTuesday 14th of March 2023 \n15.00 – 18.00 interim discussion with groups in breakout rooms. \n  \nMonday 20th of March 2023 \n9:00-11.00 Group presentations. \n11.15 – 12.00 Lecture: how to justify results to reviewers \n12.00 – 12.30  Final discussion and assessment of the use of methods. \n  \n  \nInstructors \nProf. Benedetto Lepori\, Faculty of Communication\, Culture and Society\, Università dellaSvizzera italiana. \nIlaria Falvo\, Faculty of Communication\, Culture and Society\, Università della Svizzeraitaliana. \nReference paper:\nLepori\, Benedetto (2022).
